Chapter IV A new detective
"I do not want to be indiscreet: you must tell us who is" turning to Stephen. But he was thinking to another. Then all of a sudden he said
"My name is Park, Stephen Park.
Then he called the waiter: "We should put in a room where nobody can disturb us."
"Definitely: follow me."
They walked along a basement and a room, perhaps twenty feet square, was before them.
"Here you do not disturb anyone," said the waiter as he held the keys to Stephen.
"Thank you. We need to know, you know. "
"When you're done returns the keys."
"Definitely."
He got deathly quiet. The first word of Stefano
"Accomodiamoci" and they all sat down. "I want to know your name, age and position of each one of you. This is to simplify the work of the police. Then we will discuss a bit 'between us. " Stephanie looked around.
"Let's start with you," she said.
“Appresso”.
“Sono Mary Hamilton e sono Francese. Ho 23 anni e sono qui in vacanza. Lavoro in Francia come scrittrice”.
“Claudio Petalo, ho 56 anni. Lavoro come contadino.
"bad business" said Stephen, "Thank you, can go."
People who were in that room could not do more. Stephen understood the situation and, without losing heart, he told those who were anxious:
"I must tell you, otherwise you can not stay quiet. I am an investigator, happy? "
A new silence made the air even colder. Nobody believed her ears. A detective with each other, who would have thought it?
Ora tutti sapevano chi era e cosa facesse. Fumava la pipa e qualche volta le sigarette e, per certi gesti, poteva assomigliare the king of the investigators. But he no, he preferred to Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot. It was more inclined to work in the brain rather than to put the magnifying glass to look for fingerprints. He was interested in the facts. He was tall, about six feet, blacks cropped hair brush, round face and eyes blacks, blacks a lot. He looked young, in their thirties but his real age he knew no one, only him. He did not like talking about himself to others. This was his first case as an independent. Although, had previously worked with police and carabinieri to intricate cases, but was never made to pay: gave his intelligence to all, free.
finished smoking, he returned to hotel and went down in the basement, entered the room where all the tourists, impatiently, waiting for him.
Stephen looked all one after the other and said
"start!"
